to do list

Amanda and Charles brought me some gourds home last year...Kenneth cut them for bird nests but they need to be hung up and...

the seeds need to be planted along with some sunflower seeds I have.

the basil needs to be cut and dried...

I cleaned up the first bed in order to put in our second planting of green beans. I also need to finish cutting the cilantro.

the first beans I planted were Blue Lake, these are White Half runner and I need to replant my dill since the tunnel gophers ate all the last seeds.

  • Update: I got the dill and beans planted and the cilantro cut on Sunday (14th)

I'm canning...

We have been picking blue lake green beans, squash , purple and Texas sweet onions, herbs: basil, cilantro and peppermint.

this is the cilantro and squash...
I canned the green beans and squash at 10 lbs pressure in the canner and dried the herbs in the microwave. This is the first time I used the canner as a pressure canner everything else I've done (mostly jellies) were done as hot water bath. One thing I've come to realize about water bath canning is it takes a whole lot of water! Pressure canning takes less water but you have to be able to stand listening to the pressure for however long it takes to can things, for the squash this was 40 minutes. But it has been a good experience. I was nervous about using the pressure canner but now I've done it I'm excited about what else I can put up! I just kept reading over all the directions to make sure I was doing it correctly.

Free fixture...

this was the swag lights that hung over the vanity...the ones in the master bathroom were similar to these but we took them down before I got a picture.

Several years ago as I passed a Garage Sale that was packing up I spotted something I just thought I had to have. So I turned around and went back to ask the price and they said "take anything you want for FREE". We're finished and if you want it you can have it. WOW! So I picked up this light fixture...of course it didn't have any globes with it but I thought it would look good in the bathroom.

Fast forward to now... we started looking at Home Depot and Lowes for globes and they were $5 - $6 dollars apiece. Well the last couple weeks I have been going through things and we had a bunch of stuff we took in to the Salvation Army, we decided to go in and look around and found a whole bunch of globes for .99 each! So we picked out three we liked and came home to put them up in our bathroom. Unfortunately these are the ones I picked out and they wouldn't fit on the fixture, they were too big at the base. Now what? Well...we went into Amanda's room and took the globes from the ceiling fan and switched them out.
Very pretty. All's well that ends well.

Plum jelly...

Kenneth and I went about 1/2 mile from the house and picked sand plumbs. We got about 3/4 of an ice cream bucket. I boiled it down and after cooking it twice ( the first time it didn't set up) and adding pectin, water bath for 10 minutes...voila'...plum jelly.
