drawers lined...check

we used peel-n-stick tile to line the drawers and

the shelves... my thinking is this will help in making them easier to keep clean.

this is for all my stone ware, it has its own cupboard...
how cool is that.
Ignore the holes in the back wall, this is where the old electric oven was located
and they are where the electrical wiring run.

we interrupt this kitchen remodel...

to update and repair the utility room...
Kenneth had to move the 220 electrical plug up
to make room for the dryer stand he built for me.
Hopefully this will allow me to be able to reach clear to the back of the tub
  without assistance.
I also have an idea to cover the electrical box, maybe a pretty picture.

He also removed all the old copper water lines and replaced the rotted paneling.
See the cover that goes around the drip pan, he found it down inside the wall...

first coat of the butter yellow paint applied...
it's from Home Depot, Behr "Banana Split"

Uh oh.... that doesn't look good... that will get replaced.
Maybe that's why the rechargeable drill never recharged?

NOTE:  we had to reschedule the delivery of the new washer/dryer
until this Saturday, March 31.  I'm so excited...

Kenneth comment "It's really yellow", I like it...
(this is two coats...thinking it might need a little more)
also the metal surround will need to be fastened onto the wall.

really!!!

while I'm repainting the utility room and waiting for the new washer/dryer to be delivered, of course there is still some clothes that need to be washed.  So I thought, OK... wash them out in the bathtub.  Do you have any idea how heavy wet clothes are?  I have an all new respect for the washing machine.  Anyway... so i get the clothes in the tub (Kenneth's work clothes) and I'm thinking once there washed/rinsed I'll just get them out on the clothes line and then you hear...

the neighbors gardener next door mowing her lawn.  He blows dust everywhere.  I don't know how many times I've had to run out to get the clothes down before he covers my newly washed laundry with a cloud of dust.  I'm just glad I didn't have them hung out yet.  But, this also goes to show you what a mild winter we had here.  Kenneth has already had to mow our yard twice this month.

NOTE: I would just like to give a shout out to the inventor of the wringer/washer...
No wonder the ladies of old never needed a fitness center. What a work out!

P.S.   did you see that fence rail... OMG  yet another project that needs doing.

our remodel kitchen...

we separated the chine cabinet to use as our kitchen during the remodel...

 the top holds dry goods...

and doing dishes in the bathroom sink.

continually learning...

I have been talking to all the "professionals" out there who do this on a daily basis.
Why don't people tell you some of the tricks of ther trade
they use to make a do-it-yourself job look professional?
OK... see the inside edge which is on the cabinet doors,
there is a gap, very small but still a gap between the insert and edging.
do you know what the trick is?

they run a line of caulking to "finish" this and then paint.
SEE... there's a reason we are so slow at this remodel.
because I was just going to paint the doors and I knew there was a gap but
I had to ask to get this information.  He also told me to run caulking between the front edge of the base cabinets when we screw them together. This helps it look more like one solid piece.

Remember... there are no stupid questions.

I also went to a specialty store to inquire about the best tile to use for a Baking Area...
I had a nice pinky/tan marble picked out,

but NO... that's not the best, marble doesn't stand up to kitchen use/hot pans.
he recommended porcelain, it will stand up to high heat (4000 degrees), you can take a pan straight off the stove or out of the oven and set it directly on the counter.
it also remains cool so its great for working dough.
And, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse!
He had some unused boxes in the back,
which after digging out the 3rd box for me to compare my laminate samples with,

could this be more perfect... he sold it to me for $10.00.
He also went over with me how to install it and the trick...use Epoxy Grout.
He said "it's more stain resistant and works better for continual usage."

progressing...

we purchased the new base cabinets from Surplus Warehouse...
I increased my drawers in the kitchen from 6 to13...
so far we've completed the painting on all the drawer units...

aren't they pretty...
there all white now.

we've added a base lazy-Susan unit for the corner...
very excited about this, no more unused blind corner...

Update...  I'm painting this one today.

since we've been using Amanda and Charles front load washer and dryer and they are now in there new home on "the property", which is what Emily calls it. I was forced, I tell you forced, to go buy my own... although mine will be white, this is the floor model.

Update... there supposed to be delivered this Saturday, 24th.

Kenneth and I had a discussion on what you call this...
it's for the washing machine...
a "riser" or a "stand"
what would you call it?  It also got painted white..

*** do you see my make-shift kitchen in the background.  It's been 2 months so far since we started the remodel,
we cook from the microwave, electric skillet and crock pot. I've learned you can make cornbread in the crock pot and "bake" some things in the electric skillet.
Oh...we are also learning you can grill pizza.
Dishes are done in the bathroom sink.

To continue...

We started by painting the back of the upper cabinets "Jamaican Blue",
its a Behr paint from Home Depot.

this is my inspiration...
although I won't have glass doors, because my shelves never look this good.
I just wanted a flash of blue whenever you open them.

we start on the white... Its looking pretty...

coming together...

one cabinet completed...

Kenneth installed a simple spot light over the sink
and a fluorescent light above,
I'm going to make a faux stained glass panel (painted) for here which will be lighted from behind.

Kenneth installed the wood blinds, I love how they turned out.

Yes! I like this, It's going to be really pretty.

A sneak peek at the butter yellow which I'll be using.

all the upper cabinets are finished...

Kenneth has been lining the shelves with peal-n-stick tiles,
this will make them easier to clean.

NOTE: Just wanted to thank everyone who has been helping me with some of the design decisions, I am the designer, but Kenneth is my work crew... and none of this would be possible without all his help and putting up with the continual changes I've made as we progress.

and so it begins...

In January Kenneth started by removing the cabinet doors...

 packed up the kitchen...

and moved it to the living room...

took out the stovetop, oven and removed both counter tops...
realized there isn't a whole lot to these cabinets. they were built in place...
make the decision to remove the base cabinets.

base cabinets coming out, I start stripping the white paint off the upper cabinets.

 sanded it down by hand...

keep the decorative wood over the kitchen window???
I want it out, not sure how its attached though...

Kenneth got all the base cabinets out and removed the wood piece,
we wonder how the cabinets are attached???  What's behind the
panel on top?

girls come to stay for the Super Bowl...

hanging in our jammies...

New granddaughter is born...

discover the cabinets go all the way to the ceiling when we remove the paneling...

WHY??? Would you cover perfectly good cabinets with crappy paneling?
We're going to refinish them and take them all the way up.
